JM is a great guy, in a lot of ways, and a not so great guy, in various other ways. Though we’ve lost touch, I know he’s doing fine, still in Seattle, married, and in a band that tours sometimes and puts out records on Subpop (along with another ex-boyfriend of mine, his one tape to me from our whiskey-and-tear addled time together yet to be added). After I left Seattle and moved back to NJ, JM moved into my place, took over my room. By then we’d been broken up a while (maybe a year? Hard to say, my sense of time is fuzzy and I never kept a journal) and there were really no hard feelings, and Josh wanted to keep the apartment. I have no idea why the landlord let any one of my friends move in, but it was low income housing, and maybe he just didn’t care. I packed up most of my stuff and left, and JM said he wanted the washer and dryer and would give me $200 for it when he got the money, he promised he was good for it. Never paid me, but whatever. I remember talking to Jeff a few times as he was going through the stuff I’d left behind, and asking me if *his* life was a movie, would I watch it? Josh said living with JM was like living with Ken Kesey, which is probably not far from the truth.
