Hey, What Gives?

SUMMER ROCK 2011

A new summer mix with Battles, Iceage, Motorhead, Obits, Replacements, The Men, OFF!, Disappears, SNFU, Japandroids, Hunters & Collectors, Don Caballero, Gorilla Biscuits and Alan Partridge.

Download the full mix here.

1. DAN! - Steve Coogan/Alan Partridge

Repetition is the funniest thing ever. Almost never not funny. This is currently my ringtone.

2. All Those Opposed - SNFU

3. Beer For Breakfast - The Replacements

This song gets stuck in my head at least twice a week.

4. I Don’t Belong - OFF!

“I’m standing in the shadows and I’m pissing in the punchbowl”

5. No Class - Motorhead

6. No Fly List - Obits

7. Free As I Want - Disappears

No video available! Here’s another song “Brother Joliene” off this album (Live At Echo Canyon) and “Revisiting” off the previous album Guider.

8. My Machines (feat. Gary Numan) - Battles

Best ever.

9. Remember - Iceage

10. Fucked Up - Lemonheads

No video available! Here’s another from this album (Hate Your Friends).

I’m not a fan of the band Fucked Up but I’m definitely a fan of the song.

11. No Allegiance To The Queen - Japandroids

Some parts of this song are not my favorite but I still love Japandroids and most of this song, anyway.

12. Time Flies - Gorilla Biscuits

About a month ago I was listening to Gorilla Biscuits on my headphones and then this guy sat down right across from me, wearing a GB t-shirt. Crazy. Because really, how often do you see a GB t-shirt in 2011?

13. Deluxe Mental Hospital Tour - Graf Orlock

Graf Orlock makes me laugh. The DoomBox is only $15.

14. Cutter - Converge

15. Think - The Men

No video of “Think” - here’s one from the same album (Leave Home).

16. Let’s Face It Pal, You Didn’t Need That Eye Surgery - Don Caballero

17. Mr. Right - Hunters & Collectors

Hunters and Collectors is named after a Can song. I started listening to them after seeing one of their videos on the VH1 Classic version of 120 Minutes. They’re Australian (hooray, again, for Australia! So much good music and insane people! Plus my friend Sigmund. What a country.) and the vocals sound vaguely like Nick Cave, a Cave-ish Cadence* But I  mentioned them to a friend who said, in a disparaging tone, “Oh, the band who always played with Midnight Oil?”

No video available. But here’s another song from the same album (Fireman’s Curse).

18. I Gotta Rokk - DJ Shadow
